Responsive Media for Joomla

The Responsive Media plugin for Joomla has been available since 2013. In fact, if you have watched any YouTube or Vimeo video on a responsive Joomla website since Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3+, it’s quite likely to have been embedded, in a Joomla article, via the Joomla Responsive Media plugin.

Since releasing version 1.0.0 of the Responsive Media plugin in 2013, it has been downloaded, on average, 2.9 times a day from all around the world. The Responsive Media Joomla plugin has had all this activity without any complaints about the plugin.

How it works

Simply create a special embedding token and your articles will come to life with the 3rd parties content. And the best bit is, unlike a normal iframe, the token you add will not get stripped out by the Joomla WYSIWYG editor.

Embed Tokens

To add responsive media to any Joomla! article, you simply use the embedding token in the following way.

Dailymotion

To add a Dailymotion video to a Joomla! article, simply paste the token below into the article’s content. Don’t forget to replace the VideoID with the actual Dailymotion video’s ID.

Instagram

To add Instagram content into a Joomla! article, simply paste the token below into the Joomla! article. Don’t forget to replace the ItemID with the actual ID of the Instagram content.

To add a YouTube video to a Joomla! article, simply paste the token below into the article’s content. Don’t forget to replace the VideoID with the actual YouTube video’s ID.

Can the Joomla Responsive Media plugin be used in module positions?

Yes, you need to add a Joomla custom module; then in the options of the custom module set prepare content to 'yes'.

Is the Responsive Media plugin PHP7 Ready?

Yes, version 1.5.0 of the Responsive Media plugin onwards is PHP7 ready, whilst maintaining backwards compatibility with the older versions of PHP that are supported by Joomla.

Why does pasting an embed token not always work?

Sometimes the Joomla WYSIWYG editor picks up HTML markup from your computer's clipboard. There are three options to prevent this:

1. Type the embed token in directly without copying and pasting.
2. Or, copy and paste the embed code via a plain text editor such as notepad.
3. Or, after this has happened; go into the Joomla WYSIWYG editor's code mode and remove the erroneous mark up.
